What does Frant Nursery offer you and your child?
At the Nursery School we aim to provide a safe, secure and happy environment for your child. All of our staff are well qualified and experienced in childcare, with nearly all members of staff having children of their own.
We are a nursery (not daycare) therefore sessions are shorter at four hours each, in which we encourage your child to learn, play and develop in a structured environment by building on the learning that you teach your child at home.
Parents can be involved as much or as little as they wish at Frant Nursery, but each child is treated as an individual which ensures equality of opportunity for all children and their families.
Through our staff and parents we are able to provide our children with a genuine warm and loving atmosphere as well as an excellent introduction to education and social skills. All our children are very well prepared for Primary School by the time they leave Frant Nursery.
Over 80% of our children go on to attend Frant Primary School, who we work closely with, so we are a great place to forge those friendships in preparation for school.
On Monday mornings the children enjoy a ‘Kiddikix’ session where they learn lots of ball skills, hand/eye co-ordination, and team playing taught by a qualified coach. It is thoroughly enjoyed by all. We also have a bi-monthly music group which the children love as they use lots of colourful props and puppets, along with child friendly percussion instruments. Every day the children have the opportunity to do various art and craft activities, role play, play-doh modelling and there is always something of interest in the ‘tough spot’. We also do baking and lots of messy play!
In our outside area the children can do activities such as planting vegetables and flowers or investigating how water freezes and thaws, depending on the time of year of course!
We make every effort to support all the children in developing their potential at their own pace with the aid of a planned curriculum. Our Key Person System enables us to ensure that this is tailored to meet the needs of each child. By means of developmentally appropriate play activities and a high level of individual adult input, we offer a varied curriculum which leads to the nationally approved early learning goals and prepares for children to progress with confidence to the National Curriculum, Key Stage 1.
The Early Learning Goals are:
- Communication and Language
- Understanding of the World
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Expressive Arts and Design
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Frant Nursery School actively welcomes and encourages children with special educational needs. Children with special educational needs can fully access the Nursery curriculum, appropriately differentiated where necessary. As well as each child having their own Key Person, the Nursery SENCO will ensure that Individual Learning Plans and Programmes are prepared for each child to provide equality of access across the Nursery School curriculum.
